Healing, Unity & Care: Madurai Urban Homeless Shelter Report (Feb–Mar 2025)

At Care N Lift Foundation (CNLF), our mission is to create dignity, safety, and care for the most vulnerable. The Shelter for Urban Homeless at Tirunagar, Madurai currently supports 29 residents (10 men and 19 women). This bimonthly report (Feb–Mar 2025) highlights medical interventions, community programs, student participation, and case work that shaped lives in these two months.


🩺 Medical Camps & Health Checkups

  • On 22 Feb 2025, Dr. Murugeshwari from Urban Primary Health Centre led a health camp, diagnosing non-communicable diseases and providing psychiatric referrals.

  • On 5 Feb 2025, a Master Health Check-up at Rajaji Government Hospital served 19 elderly inmates, identifying undiagnosed conditions, offering lifestyle guidance, and ensuring follow-ups.


🎓 Student Engagement & Social Work Internships

  • American College MSW students completed a 30-day internship, conducting case studies, group discussions, and ice-breaking activities.

  • A Focused Group Discussion on “Happy Aging” was hosted by experts, boosting morale and teaching residents how to embrace old age positively.

  • SVN College BBA students donated a wet grinder and organized games, cultural events, dance, and music for inmates.


👥 Unity & Cultural Programs

  • Unity Kitchen Program brought together residents through collaborative cooking, games, and shared meals, fostering harmony and reducing conflicts.

  • Residents celebrated with music, storytelling, and art-based therapy to heal trauma and reduce social withdrawal.


📖 Case Interventions

  • Mr. Karthik’s Story: Once struggling with trauma and substance abuse, he showed recovery through counseling, group therapy, and community support.

  • Ms. Shanthi’s Journey: Overcame grief and trauma through art therapy, music sessions, and consistent group activities, regaining confidence.

  • Ms. Papa’s Case: Missed old-age pension resolved after intervention with post office officials, ensuring accountability and timely payments.

The months of February and March 2025 marked healing, engagement, and empowerment at the Tirunagar Shelter. From health check-ups to cultural and social programs, our efforts strengthened residents physically, emotionally, and socially. With continuous community support, CNLF remains committed to uplifting lives with compassion and care.
